North Andover - John F. Shaw III a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and community leader, passed away July 30, 2024, at his home.
Jack was Born June 2, 1944, in Cambridge, MA. Son of John F. Shaw Jr and Ruth Shaw (Callahan) of Peabody, MA.
Jack is survived by his loving wife for 60+ years Sharen L. Shaw (Wilt) of North Andover, MA their son, Darren Shaw and daughter in law Jennifer Shaw and his cherished grandchildren, Sophia and Emmet Shaw, all of Boxford, MA.
He also leaves behind his sister, Janet Smith (Husband Ronald) of Palmer, MA, as well as nieces Jennifer Aubrey (Husband Daniel) of South Hadley, MA and Janice Keeton (Husband Ronald) of Monson, MA. John was predeceased by his father John (1998) and Ruth (1988) as well as his younger sister, Joan Shaw (Partner Taffy) of Newton, NH in 2017. Jack had several cousins and grand nieces and nephews who all will miss him dearly.
Jack was a graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1962 where he excelled in the classroom as well as playing football. He worked in various automobile service stations in the area throughout his high school years working on engines as a mechanic. Jacks work ethic and sincere personality was something to admire. Upon graduation he enrolled in the United States Army as a reserve and was promoted to Master Sargent while serving. Jacks' education continued in college where he studied Electrical Engineering at Wentworth Institute of Technology. He decided to shift focus to Mechanical Engineering at another school, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He went on to graduate with a master's in mechanical engineering along with graduating from SLOAN Business School in 1972.
Professionally his career was as equally as impressive as his education. He began working with Warren Pike Associates in Boston, MA providing industrial equipment to local manufacturers. He then took a job as Marketing Manager with United Shoe Manufacturing Company in Beverly, MA. While working on machines that made various footwear, he utilized his gift of math to improve machines and production. Cam Driven Indexing machines was something Jack gravitated toward and became an expert. His ambition led him to start his business JF Shaw Company Inc as an Industrial Manufacturers Representative in 1975. The company is a leader in the industry and focuses on Power Transmission Equipment, Motion Control, Safety Automation and other cuttingedge technology and is based in Wilmington, MA.
Jack spent countless hours volunteering as a sports coach and community leader. Jack was President of the North Andover Soccer Association as well as Board Member of the Joseph N. Hermann Youth Center, leading the development and construction of a new youth center. While his son was attending Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, MA Jack garnered interest in the school's mission and how it impacts the community. Jack supported Centrals mission for 15 years as a board member, during that time he went on to be the first two-time elected Chairman at Central Catholic High School. Jack was also a board member at Lawrence Boys and Girls Club and lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and countless other social and networking memberships in the area.
Jack had a passion for family, fast cars, scuba diving, boating, flying and tools. His legacy will be remembered by his family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him through his volunteer work and community service. He will be deeply missed by all who had the opportunity to shake his hand, see the smile and hear that deep voice as he introduced himself.
Calling hours will be held at Conte Funeral Home in North Andover, MA on Monday August 5th from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michaels Parish Tuesday, August 6th at 10 a.m. then Jack will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery in Salem, MA. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the North Andover Youth Center, Lawrence Boys and Girls Club or an organization of your choice.
