Here's what's coming to Netflix in August 2020 (2024)

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — ... and then it was August. These days and weeks feel longer, but weekends and months seem shorter. Strange how that works. Let's take a look at some of our distraction options coming to Netflix in August 2020.

These days I tend to focus on the Netflix Originals and exclusives, but "An Education," "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," "Jurassic Park," "Mad Max," "Nightcrawler," "Safety Not Guaranteed," and "Casino Royale" are highly recommended catalog titles. I'm also looking forward to the campy schlock of "We Summon the Darkness" with Alexandra Daddario. Sometimes thinking is overrated.

Immigration Nation -- NETFLIX DOCUMENTARY

Most people would agree that America has immigration issues. Some want open boarders. Others want to build walls. I don't know what picture "Immigration Nation" will present; I just know that I want to see the issue from as many sides as possible. (Avail. 8/3/20)

Wizards: Tales of Arcadia -- NETFLIX FAMILY

Take a handful of of sci-fi themes and merge them with a hefty amount of fantasy tropes and Guillermo del Toro’s rampant imagination and you have "Wizards', the third and final chapter in the Emmy-winning Tales of Arcadia trilogy. Following "Trollhunters" and "3Below," "Wizards," the brings five seasons worth of character development and world building together for one an epic conclusion. (Avail. 8/7/20)

Glow Up: Season 2 -- NETFLIX ORIGINAL

"Glow Up" is an UK reality series that sees aspiring makeup artists looking to make a name for themselves. It's essentially"The Great British Bake Off" with less food and bigger personalities. Considering my love for horror films. live theater and David Bowie, it shouldn't be a shock that I binged the first season in on sitting. (Avail. 8/14/20)

High Score -- NETFLIX DOCUMENTARY

Over the years there have been a number of documentaries about the video game industry. It's an era that I'm very familiar with because I was there living and playing along as it happened in real time. "High Score" tells the well-known stories while also including some delightful surprises in each episode. I'll be talking more about this series as we get closer to its release. (Avail. 8/19/20)

John Was Trying to Contact Aliens -- NETFLIX FILM

Sundance Film Festival short "John Was Trying to Contact Aliens" is an all-too brief look at electronic genius John Shepherd's efforts to contact extraterrestrials via the most amazing collection of analog machines. (Avail. 8/20/20)
