Re: Do any of you who are excited for this game “hate” or dislike Madden?

I never hated Madden. I just became indifferent towards it. The game just felt stale and sterile. Madden looks good and it simulates football well, but that’s it. It just felt like it had no soul and the presentation was all over the place.

I remember one year where if you extended a player contract in franchise they would show it during gameplay and mentioned it. Then, it just disappeared from the following games. Why?

I love the signature style they are adding to players now. I saw a side by side of Pacheco running and it looks great. I read that most if not all the QBs have their stances and mannerisms. Those things are great and if EA builds them out then it would go a long ways toward adding that variety and spice to the game.

1 - Dynasty mode is just a better setup for a video game mode than Franchise. Because players exhaust their eligibility after four seasons, there is an immediate and obvious counterbalance against power creep. Too often in Madden franchise mode, the mode gets stale after the QB of the Future is drafted, the superstar skill position players have signed their extensions, and the concrete of the roster core otherwise solidifies. That player development in Madden is relatively predictable and one-size-fits-all doesn't really help here. The constant roster turnover in college keeps the career mode fresh.

For me, this is the biggest thing. The roster turnover in the college game, whether it’s football or basketball or even baseball, is just much more suited for a fun dynasty mode than the professional game, IMO. Getting that star QB but only having him for four seasons versus having him for what is likely the rest of the dynasty mode in the pro game just keeps things a lot fresher. Every professional sports game’s dynasty mode has always gotten stale for me after a few seasons whereas I’ve been able to make if 20-30+ seasons deep in college football and basketball games.

2 - The possibility space of gameplay is larger in college football. Madden 24 is, objectively, the most capable video game adaptation of gridiron football that is currently available to the public. No, it is, and it's beyond debate; it's got more X's and O's faithfully replicated than any other peer which has ever existed in the football video game space can sneeze at. But when one gets on the field in Madden, the talent level at the NFL level is so concentrated and so close together, and the schemes at the NFL level are so hom*ogenized, that 75% of the teams are playing basically the same game over and over, and a lot of the differences in any given contest are just details around the edges. It can get old kinda quick unless you're a total football sicko. Meanwhile in college, depending on what team you pick and whoever is your opponent, you could very well be playing a different sport week to week. You could play against a triple option team one week, a spread option team the next, an Air Raid team thereafter, and a pro style team immediately after that. Different teams can and do utilize different offensive tempos to change up something as fundamental to the experience as calling plays. And if you play multiple teams with the same scheme, even they could be different because the gap between the best player in the sport and the worst player is so much wider.

This cannot be overstated enough. Assuming they get the details right, which the past NCAA teams were relatively good at, the sheer discrepancy in schemes means the games all feel unique on both sides of the ball and even the running exact same scheme as another team feels drastically different with the talent gaps across the 134 teams. Too much of Madden feels samey since the talent gap is smaller and the NFL has the same general offensive and defensive schemes across the league with minor adjustments for a star player here and there. Combined with the forced turnover of your roster there is an inherent lack of staleness built in the NCAA games that Madden cannot replicate.

Re: Do any of you who are excited for this game “hate” or dislike Madden?

I just prefer the the roster construction, pageantry/traditions, and immersion in the college football games compared to Madden. I don't think I ever bought Madden, besides a decade plus ago when I bought old used versions of Madden 05. When it comes to Madden, I wanted to want to buy Madden when NCAA went away. But, it just never feel immersed into Madden like the NCAA games. From a gameplay perspective, I can enjoy playing Madden. I just get bored with the Exhibition-style broadcast. It just feels weird, that I have been 100% on EA CFB from day one of announcement and I'm not with Madden. I just need to see the TV-Style presentation and new announcers. Because I'm tired of hearing Gaudin and Davis

But overall, I just prefer the structure of College Football than Madden. I prefer recruiting, roster turnover, different playstyles/schemes, and overall journey. With contracts, I can gave my roster set for the foreseeable future. I can take a bad team like the Bears and Panthers and by year 3, I can have those teams being dominant for the foreseeable futures. That's the not same with a one star school in CFB, especially now since you won't be able to easily recruit 4 and 5 star players. I can easily see myself having a 10+ season dynasty, whereas in Madden, it's likely just until I won a Superbowl

Don’t hate it, but they haven’t done anything lately to make me excited. Franchise mode is the only mode I play and it’s been stale for a while. Now with College Football returning I’ll probably only play Madden once it’s free on EA Play and will only play career mode with my imported RTG

Importing my Road to Glory player to Superstar mode will be the most time I will put into Madden. Having players I can start as a Freshman and play into Madden, will provide attachment. I will just rent Madden via Gamefly. I can rent games for a month plus and they won't say anything and I can do it multiple times. So, I can do it around launch and a couple months later

I do wonder if Madden's Franchise mode will ever allow you to start as a coordinator like Dynasty mode. Of they ever do that, I would definitely be interested into putting more seasons into Franchise

Re: Do any of you who are excited for this game “hate” or dislike Madden?

What Madden needs is a playable college mode with fake colleges to really give the draft a fleshing out. Maybe a fifty team college experience, one team for each state. But it would also be better to let you have the option to play franchise dynasty mode as it currently is, for people who would rather create real draft classes. They could break the colleges in to 5 conferences with 10 states to each conference. They really need to think waay outside the box now that CFB is getting a reboot. Maybe have the fake colleges play a ten game season with a 6 team playoff. 4000 fake players that you have a real chance to connect with on an emotional level would really make a Madden franchise enjoyable. As it is currently, I would rather just play one season on Madden, and then just play exhibition games against my brother. But with CFB about to be available, my exhibition game playing time against my brother is going to be all CFB25.

Re: Do any of you who are excited for this game “hate” or dislike Madden?

There are individual iterations of Madden which I hate. I hate the state of the franchise compared to what it was 20 years ago and consequently where I think that it should be today. I hate that there have been times where they have forced pure arcade mechanics on users who don't want them. I hate that Madden 24 offers maybe the least realistic running game of any football video game with how absurdly easy it is to average 5 ypc on the highest difficulty. But I still wouldn't say that I hate Madden. At this point it's just a series that I wish was better, but it does manage to fill my football itch from time to time (if for no other reason it has been the only option for years).

So, how can I be excited for CFB? College sports games just have an inherent advantage as video games. Shorter seasons and more finite roster construction all creates an experience that makes progression more likely to be achieved (multiple seasons) and the more frequent roster turnover keeps the experience fresh. If you started a franchise in Madden 24 as the Texans, then you might only ever have 1 player at QB even if you played 15 seasons deep into a franchise. In a CFB game you will never go more than 4 years with the same player at any position. Recruiting in general is also a much more engaging way to build your roster than going through the draft or free agency.

Aside from roster construction you have the more dynamic playbooks. Being able to run anything from a pure run option to throwing it 50 times a game, and having those as legitimate real life strategies. So again, there is just more variety.

I also find the post season to be much more interesting and offers a sense of accomplishment. Taking a low tier program to a 6-6 season and the Liberty bowl feels a lot better than taking any team in Madden and going 9-8 and an missing/getting bounced from the playoffs.
