If there is one journalist left in the UK, last night's harrowing and brilliant Channel 4 Dispatches should be a turning point in the public's perception of Israel's murderous assult on Gaza. Much in the same way, James Cameron's reporting from Vietnam marked a turning point in public perceptions of the warOh wait, I forgot. 70% of the British public are in favour of a ceasefire. Pity the nation.Pity the poor children#Rafah #Dispatches #Channel4 #RafahonFire https://lnkd.in/ek85u5HQ

As a political liar Keir Starmer is as bad a Boris Johnson and Liz Truss. It's easy to be angry at these focus-grouped key pledges. And don't think I'm not. But putting anger to one side, there's a bigger lesson to be learned here. The lesson I take is this, the Labour membership is spactacularly gullible. It gives me no pleasure to say that, because most Labour members in my experience are good people. Many Labour Party members (good citizens to a fault) like to view themselves as the 'big brains' in politics. Cultured, sophisticated, the smart ones. They would never fall for lie as brazen as the promise of £350 million for the NHS on the side of a red bus. Right?Right?Well....Starmer wants to build a wall in the English Channel. And make the English Channel pay for it.The fact that two thirds of Labour Party members (that's almost exactly the same amount of members who voted for Jeremy Corbyn) voted for 'Mr. Human Rights' Lawyer' to be Labour leader in the hope he would pivot the party towards mitigating or reversing Brexit. That such a brazen act of deceit was swallowed hook line and sinker by the Labour Party is a damning inditement of just how gullible the average Labour member can be. It's hard to write such things, but it's true. They expected 'Mr. Remain'. They got 'Mr. Trump Wall in the English Channel'.Such a brazen act of collective gullibility is up there with the kind magical thinking held by an ex-factory worker from Thurrock who thinks Britain will go buccaneering on the high seas post-Brexit.It turns out a shelfload of Kieslowski DVDs and a buddha in the living room window doesn't make you a political genius. #Labour #Generalelection #election2024

Janice Turner in The Times says the quiet part loud. The Green Party of England and Wales, who since 1992 have gone from a tiny party with two councillors to having eight hundred councillors and one MP. An astonishing electoral achievement. If current polls are to be believed, it seems possible the Greens will triple their number of MPs to three at the next election, which is the same number of MPs the SNP had in 1987. An incredible example of electoral success in a gerrymandered, rigged, voter surpressed electoral system like ours. Janice Turner, however, was comfortable with the Greens when they were a 'safe protest vote'. Interesting use of the word safe. That's the ruling elite's conception of democracy in a single subheading. You can have your democracy, as long as your democratic rights don't change anything. The minute a party starts to threaten the professional political class. Then they are an enemy to be destroyed. These people would abolish the vote if they could. Happy Sunday everyone!#Greenparty #Sunday

Sad to hear about the death of David Marquand. He went on a very interesting journey politically and his writings were always engaging. I also respected him for the admirable flexibility of thought which went through his writing. As a child of the universe, I will miss him. RIPhttps://lnkd.in/d3XyX64t

He also possessed an admirable flexibility of thought which many of the luminaries around New Labour sadly lacked. As a child of the universe, I will miss him. RIPhttps://lnkd.in/d3XyX64t

Embarassing article in The Guardian by Jason Cowley. And misleading too. Cowley claims Corbyn and his movement were loathed in 'faraway Brexit-supporting former Labour towns'. This is misleading. Jeremy Corbyn's movement did very well with exactly these sorts of towns in the 2017 general election. Harder to imagine a worse commentator than Jason Cowley. Maybe Stuart Maconie would be....https://lnkd.in/d5UmpbU2

Natalie Elphicke voted for Penny Morduant to be Prime Minister less than two years ago. Now she's a Labour MP.Penny Morduant was George W. Bush's mouthpiece, his press secretary during the War On Terror years. Today, Elphicke is a Labour MP and Jeremy Corbyn isn't. Just think about that. All while a genocide is going on. You couldn't make it up.
